From "Y Kid" to "Y Counselor"
Twenty-three-year-old Sarah Sharp grew up as Y camper and then started working at the Y while attending Lemon Bay High School.
She returned to the Venice Y this year for her 7th summer as a staff member after earning her degree in early childhood education from the University of South Florida.
Every summer Sharp looks forward to seeing Y kids from previous years.
“I have a CIT (counselor in training) this year that was my camper when he was in third grade,” she said with a laugh. “You see the same kids year after year and it’s exciting to watch them grow.”
Sarah hopes to work in the school system, but the Y is where here heart is, she says.
“I feel like part of a family here. I feel like I actually make a difference, and they really want me here,” she said.
