Danny Duncan - Age 20
In less than one year, Englewood YMCA Member Danny Duncan, 20, has broken into the international level of sprint triathletes. The Florida native grew up running, but didn't try his first triathlon until the 2010 Englewood YMCA Triathlon. Last August he placed 15th in his age group at the USAT Sprint National Championship and qualified as a member of Team USA for the Sprint World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand set for October 2012.
"I love taking the gift that God gave me and using it in the sport of triathlon," Duncan said. "So far it has changed my life completely; I have met world class athletes, raced against professionals, became a great role model and overall a better person. The YMCA has helped me a lot with training. I take yoga pretty regularly and am always in the pool."
When Duncan isn't training he works with younger athletes in the making as a coach at Englewood Elementary with the Rock and Run Cross Country team. He plans to earn a degree in exercise physiology and wants to build a career as a professional triathlete and running coach.
