The South County Family YMCA’s 25th Anniversary Black Tie gala raised a record amount of funds in one evening for the Venice YMCA on Feb. 4.

More than $445,000 was donated to the YMCA that night, including a lead gift from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation for $250,000 toward the renovation of the Y’s gymnasium. An additional $52,000 was given toward the project, which has a total cost of more than $600,000. Additionally, more than $195,000 was raised for the Y’s Children and Families Scholarship Fund. These funds assist families who otherwise may not be able to afford YMCA programs and memberships.

“This was an amazing evening that showed how much Venice supports and values our YMCA,” said Wendy Fishman, chairwoman of the board and co-chair for the Black Tie. “So many families will benefit thanks to these donations.

Additional donations to the gymnasium renovation are welcome. Contact Michelle Butler, director of development, 941-492-9622 x148, mbutler@veniceymca.org.
